The Process:

+ Objective: To deter risky behavior in adolescents and young adults through life skills training and mentoring. Life skills include but are not limited to: self-esteem awareness, problem solving, goal setting, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.

+ Goal: To have adolescents and young adults avoid delinquency, unplanned pregnancies, and delay first time sexual encounters, while acquiring diplomas, degrees, and successful careers by learning to make better choices in life.

+ Procedure: By presenting a Reality Speaking staff person to facilitate and incorporate the Reality Speaking Life Skills philosophy and curricula into the student’s school day by providing weekly workshop sessions during the student’s lunch period.

+ Materials: It is imperative that every student or participant have their own materials, workbooks, access to facilitator, Reality Speaking incentives, and games.

The Reality Speaking Life Skills program is designed to follow the nine months or forty weeks of the school’s calendar year. It consists of nine exercises covering various life skills techniques, one for each month, and an age appropriate workbook with forty questions and topics that correspond with the current life skills exercise to be discussed on a weekly basis.

Reality Speaking believes that the constant repetition and encouragement of positive behavior reinforces the desired behavior. The uniqueness of the Reality Speaking Life Skills Program and its passion to meet adolescents and young adults on their own playing field sets it at the forefront of progressive and non-traditional teaching techniques.
